REST with Luna Love
Where is your happy place? In this interview, Personal Leadership and Emotional Mastery Coach Luna Love beautifully illustrates hers, which rests at the intersection of Ancient Egyptian beauty rituals, meditation, and alchemy.
She also shares several key lessons about honoring the body, along with why we should skip the judgement. She points out that this isn't always easy because of the mind, and she reminds us that we're allowed to change our minds, too.
WHAT ARE YOUR RITUALS TO RELAX, REJUVENATE, AND RESTORE YOURSELF?
My rituals for restoration is hands down bath time! Lights out, candles lit, salt lamps, Epsom salts, essential oils, a pot of herbal tea, and a guided meditation. Warm water is my happy place; it brings me immediately into the center of myself. I scrub, guasha, and oil my face and body with homemade alchemically blended lotions, oils, salves. I think of how the ancient Egyptians stayed young, and along with deep meditation, alchemy with plant allies is key. The scents awaken, relax and soothe my mind, body and spirit.
Lesson: listen to the body’s wisdom
What is your advice to empower women to make time for (guilt-free) rest?
Skip the judgement. Any and all judgement will lead to suffering. I do not say this from a profound judgement-free state of being. That which I’ve learned to access is temporary. One thing I know for sure is when your body tells you it needs rest, there’s step 1. listening to the body, and step 2. honoring the body with aligned action. It can be challenging with that pesky mind, but when any sense of judgement comes up that you may not be doing enough or taking up too much space, just remember self-care is just that, it’s caring, it’s not indulgent. Care for yourself and know you’re responding to a deep relationship where you listen to and honor your body’s needs.
Lesson: give yourself space to listen to the body’s wisdom
Please describe a time when you had to surrender to rest.
This year! It was so full and rich of so many blessings, including non-stop travel, and programs, and retreats I was offering. When it came to the end of the year, when I usually lead Rise and Uplift, a live 3-day Women’s Leadership Conference, I simply was exhausted and I knew... this isn’t supposed to happen, I can feel myself hitting an edge if I go forward, people are depending on me, I promised this to so many... and I just said, “I’m allowed to change my mind, this is for the highest good right now.” Sigh of relief and stress melted from my body with that decision.
Lesson: listen to the body’s wisdom
How do you tune into your body's wisdom to know when to rest?
A regular practice of listening and a commitment to preventative care prioritized over treatment. Use treatment when needed, but I try not to let things get to that point. What does the body want right now? Ask. Listen. Honor. Is it water, movement, make a sound, food, a good stretch, a nap, to get up early? The body knows more than the mind’s rationalizations.
Lesson: Trust the wisdom of your body
